MPW wins People’s Choice Award for Safety Innovation

MPW won the People’s Choice Award and finished second overall for the Safety Innovation Award at the 2018 Ohio Safety Congress & Expo, hosted by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

MPW Director of Engineering & Manufacturing Justin Pierce managed the project.

“We’re proud that the attendees selected our M1-RV as the most innovative safety solution in Ohio,” Pierce said. “It’s an honor to be involved with such an extensive safety and innovation event and we’re already looking forward to next year.”

MPW submitted its M1-RV Automated Vacuum System for the award. This piece of equipment eliminates technicians from hazardous work environments. During its first tank cleaning, workers present at the time witnessed a large chunk of debris break loose and fall onto the M1-RV base. The base remained intact with zero damage, while the incident would have led to an employee injury. The M1-RV is already proving effective in keeping MPW employees and customers safe.

MPW’s Engineering and Fabrication teams also developed mounts on which water blasting or auger attachments are mounted. Technicians maneuver the M1-RV and adjust with remote controls from a safe location. The robot’s water blasting capabilities include pressures up to 40,000 psi.

The top four innovative solutions were displayed and judged March 6-8 and the final standings were announced March 8.

According to its website, “the BWC established the Safety Innovation Award to encourage and recognize innovative solutions that reduce the risk of workplace injuries and illnesses. Preventing harm benefits everyone – employers and employees alike. Showcasing the most successful innovations helps other Ohio employers in their safety efforts and can inspire them to develop innovative solutions of their own.”
