Job Description: 

This position is responsible for payroll tasks in accordance with the processing of payroll, including garnishments, benefits and taxes to approximately 2,000 employees.


  • Complete Payroll taxes processing.

    • Transmit periodic file to ADP, who handles all MPW payroll tax filings.
    • Update the accrued payroll tax withholding reconciliation weekly from the Payroll tax summary (ADP) sheet.
    • Assist with year-end processes, including tax balancing and W-2’s.
    • Assist with Canada year end processes including T4s, tax balancing and reporting.
    • Research any tax issues from ADP and/or tax agency and draft any correspondence.
    • Review ADP’s quarterly filings including the Statement of Deposit.
  • Complete weekly processing of payroll.
    • Enter hours (as needed) and audit branch payroll through JDE.
    • Complete preliminary review of time from the Kronos timekeeping system. Perform initial review and resolve matters prior to upload into JD Edwards.
    • Calculate retroactive payments.
    • Enter certain payroll deductions, including child support garnishments, levies, bankruptcy, etc.; uniform deductions; employee promotional inventory purchase, and 401K deductions.
    • Review prevailing wages, if applicable.
    • Print, sort and distribute checks/remittances.
    • Scan and email payroll registers to business unit personnel.
    • Enter direct deposit and pay card routing and account information. Send direct deposit/pay card transmission file to the financial institution within the timeframe established by the department head and financial institution.
    • Enter employee information to pay card provider’s website to register employee pay card data.
  • Complete semi-monthly processing of payroll.

  • Complete weekly processing of Canada Payroll through ADP.
    • See responsibilities detailed above in weekly processing.
  • Process/key commission payments, bonus payments (includes management bonus, production bonuses), vacation payouts and other miscellaneous payroll payments, as needed.
  • Answer payroll questions from employees, management, etc. with a focus on customer service.
  • Prepare garnishment disbursement request and mail garnishments to proper agencies/parties.
  • Reporting:
    • Run weekly reports from Business Objects.
  • Keep current with payroll laws and regulations.
  • Perform filing, as needed.
  • Performs analysis other duties, as directed.

Required Skills: 

  • Associates Degree in Business or related field preferred.
  • High School Diploma with strong emphasis on bookkeeping required.
  • 3-7 years experience in Multi-State payroll function preferred.
  • Microsoft Office required. JD Edwards, Business Objects/Crystal and Kronos experience preferred.
  • Payroll tax law (multi-state) knowledge.
  • Professional oral and written interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and use discretion while performing job duties.
