Several days into his new role as Director of Safety, Anthony Tagliaferro is already embracing both the challenges and opportunities that come with expanded responsibilities. “It’s exciting, fun, and challenging all at the same time,” he said. “I know I have big shoes to fill, but I’m proud to step into this position and continue building on the strong foundation already in place.”
Tagliaferro’s role now extends beyond his previous focus on Environmental Health & Safety. He is overseeing a broad spectrum of critical areas, including transportation, safety, training and development, security, and EH&S. While the scope has grown, Tagliaferro is confident he isn’t starting from scratch thanks to experience gained through past projects across each of these functions. “I feel prepared because I’ve had exposure to these areas before,” he said. “There’s still plenty to learn about the intricacies, but I’m not walking in blind.”
A key priority for Tagliaferro is ensuring that the department doesn’t stand still. “The group had great leadership under Matt Dawson, and we have a great team,” he said. “My challenge now is to keep us pressing forward, working through projects, continuously improving, and never letting ourselves stagnate.”
Tagliaferro doesn’t see himself confined to a desk. He plans to remain active in the field, conducting site visits.
Looking ahead, Tagliaferro is setting a clear direction: strengthening MPW’s training and development programs, maintaining the safest fleet possible, and supporting the safest workforce possible. “We’ll keep investing our time and resources into the right projects to make sure we get there,” he said.
Above all, Tagliaferro wants the team to know he is open to communication. “If you have comments, questions, or suggestions on how we can be more helpful to you and your teams, please reach out,” he said. “We’d love to hear from you.”
